Air Sealing

Up to 40% of home heat loss results from air leaking into the house through cracks holes and other openings. Moldy and dusty air can also leak into the house from attics and foundations, creating a variety of health hazards.

By properly sealing these cracks and openings, you can greatly reduce your heating and cooling costs. After eliminating as much air leakage as possible, controlled ventilation should be installed where necessary. This way, you're in charge of the air quality as well as the air temperature in your home. Pollution, drafts, noise and unwanted moisture stay outside where they belong. And the air temperature between rooms is more consistent.

When all is said and sealed, air sealing is a great way to increase your home's resale value while reducing today's energy costs - especially when combined with insulation.

Air leakage can account for up to half of the energy lost by your home. Adding insulation can result in significant savings. Download this guide to Sealing and Insulating with Energy Star and get the facts. Click here to download (pdf)
